Usoro grabbed that opportunity with both hands, soaring to a season’s best leap of 6.87 metres on her very first attempt to claim the women’s long jump silver medal, delivering one of Team Nigeria’s most inspiring stories in Glasgow.

Ruth Usoro Season’s Best Secures Silver

Usoro announced herself immediately in the women’s long jump final with a superb opening leap of 6.87m (+2.7), a season’s best that temporarily put her at the top of the standings.

England’s Jazmin Sawyers eventually claimed the gold medal with a jump of 6.93m, but the Nigerian held on for silver to secure her first major international outdoor medal.

The achievement also marked a huge improvement on her sixth-place finish at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and added another medal to Team Nigeria’s impressive athletics campaign in Glasgow.
