Long before the first trailer for Children of Blood and Bone was released, fans of Tomi Adeyemi‘s bestselling fantasy novel wondered one thing: What would the world of Orïsha look like on screen? Thanks to acclaimed costume designer Charlese Antoinette Jones, audiences are finally getting a glimpse, and it’s nothing short of breathtaking.

Known for her work across film and television, Jones has built an impressive portfolio with costume credits on Raising Dion, Judas and the Black Messiah, AIR, and Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody. Now, the DMV native takes on one of her most ambitious projects yet, crafting the wardrobe for the highly anticipated adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone.

At the film’s special first-look presentation, the costumes were unveiled in a dedicated exhibition, offering fans an up-close look at the craftsmanship behind each character. More than simply dressing the cast, Jones has translated Tomi Adeyemi’s richly imagined universe into garments that communicate power, heritage, identity and status.

King Saran, portrayed by Chiwetel Ejiofor, is outfitted in commanding, regal attire that reflects his authority, while Queen Nehanda’s (Regina King) wardrobe balances elegance with strength. Cynthia Erivo‘s Admiral Kaea is dressed in structured, battle-ready silhouettes befitting one of Orïsha’s fiercest warriors, and Viola Davis‘s Mama Agba exudes wisdom and presence through richly layered garments that feel deeply rooted in tradition.
