French Club Reims Announce Signing Of 18 Year Old From Nigerian Academy
French Ligue 2 side Reims have announced the signing of 18 year old Nigerian defender Godwin Itotomi from Nigerian academy Grassrunners, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The agreement was for a one year loan with the option of a purchase at the end of it. He will start with the youth team where his performances will be monitored for a possible promotion to the main team.
In a statement, the club described his signing explaining that the decision to sign him came after a period of trial at the club where he also played games for their U19 team.
Below is a part of the statement on their website:
After taking his classes at the Nigerian Grassrunners FC academy, Godwin Itotomi joins Reims Révélations. An ideal human and infrastructural framework for a first experience on the European continent, which will facilitate its adaptation and allow it to continue its development in the best conditions.
His first steps in Red & White have already been taken. On trial for several days at the Raymond Kopa Life Center, the powerful Nigerian central defender has indeed taken part in the matches against Paris Saint-Germain (U19) and then Eintracht Frankfurt (Reims Revelations). Convincing performances that now allow him to join the ranks of the Espoirs group.
