Marvel Comic-Con 2026: Major Announcements Revealed

San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H has produced some memorable Marvel moments over the years, but the studio’s 2026 panel may have just delivered its best showing in a long time. Two major announcements came out of Kevin Feige’s presentation on Saturday, and both of them landed the way a Hall H announcement is supposed to land, with the kind of genuine surprise that makes a room of thousands of people react in real time.

First: Ryan Coogler is returning to direct “Black Panther 3,” with David Jonsson cast as the adult son of T’Challa, shooting on 70mm and arriving December 15, 2028. Then, barely letting the room settle, Marvel brought Ryan Gosling to the stage to confirm that he is playing Ghost Rider in a film directed by Shawn Levy, also targeting 2028. Two separate announcements. Two enormous castings. One panel.

The emotional weight of “Black Panther 3” is significant, and Feige and Coogler clearly understood it when walking into Hall H. The 2018 original, led by Chadwick Boseman, grossed $1.3 billion globally and became the first superhero film ever nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award. Boseman’s death in 2020 reshaped the franchise in ways nobody had planned for. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” navigated that grief by shifting the mantle to Letitia Wright’s Shuri, a film that grossed over $850 million worldwide and won an Oscar from five nominations. Angela Bassett also became the first performer ever nominated for an Academy Award for a Marvel role.

Now comes the third chapter, and it answers the question “Black Panther 2” planted in its closing moments: T’Challa had a young son with Nakia, played by Lupita Nyong’o. That son is now the center of the story.
