The Federal Government of Nigeria officially launched the Government Service Portal (GSP) on Tuesday in Abuja. The unified platform is designed to serve as a single, secure gateway through which citizens, non-citizens, and businesses can discover, request, and consume public services across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The flagship project was developed by Galaxy Backbone, the Federal Government’s central digital infrastructure provider in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Tackling Decades of Fragmented Governance

For years, Nigerians seeking basic public services ranging from business registrations and tax filings to permit processing and official verifications have had to navigate dozens of isolated government websites. Each portal operated as its own silo, requiring citizens to repeatedly create separate accounts, upload identical identity credentials, and pay scattered administrative fees.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, highlighted that while individual MDAs have made strides in digitising their specific workflows, the overall user experience remained deeply fragmented.”Government should be organised around the needs of the people, not around institutional boundaries,” Prof. Adeyanju stated. “By bringing government services together under one trusted digital gateway, we are simplifying access, improving visibility, promoting consistency, and creating a more seamless experience for everyone who interacts with the government.
