PDP State Chairmen Ask Security Agencies To Probe Turaki- Led Faction , Urge Jonathan To Distance Himself
The Forum of the 36 state chairmen and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday called on security agencies to investigate a rival group led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN), accusing it of forgery, impersonation and misrepresenting court judgments in the party’s lingering leadership dispute.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, on Monday , the Chairman of the PDP Chairmen’s Forum, Austin Nwachukwu, alleged that members of the rival group, whom he described as expelled party members, had continued to parade themselves as a faction of the PDP despite court decisions recognising only one leadership.
The forum urged law enforcement agencies to investigate what it described as the “criminal and malicious forgery and distortion of court judgments,” warning that the actions of the group posed a threat to public order and the rule of law.
“Their utter disrespect for the rule of law, their breach of peace and reckless utterances pose a clear and present danger to public order,” Nwachukwu said.
The chairmen insisted that the only recognised leadership of the PDP is the National Working Committee headed by National Chairman Abdulraham Mohammed and National Secretary Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu.
They also appealed to former President Goodluck Jonathan to publicly distance himself from the rival group, alleging that his name was being used without his consent to advance its activities.
“It is public knowledge that your name is being used by these people to perpetuate their activities. This must stop,” the forum said, adding that Jonathan’s silence could undermine his reputation as a statesman.
